We are launching Con-News for the geek in us.

O.k. We are going to take one step away from getting some of our geekiness off this blog,
and into ANOTHER ONE!
We are launching Con-News here on blogger for anyone who enjoys going to conventions of any shape or size.
It’s an infant right now, but we plan on having reports from cons, previews of conventions and a weekly tuesday or wed list of all the upcoming weekend cons in your area. Go have fun! Con-News is Live

Martin Firrell and Nathan Fillion’s Super Secret Thingy.

Martin Firrell is an artist who works with words. Really big words on public buildings. And words that make you think about humanity. His latest project feature’s none other than the wonderful Nathan Fillion. It is a neat ‘art video’ and I like that it actually has a point. So many Video Art pieces I see are too personal to the artist and don’t have any lasting impact. This is also free to be seen right on the internet. You don’t have to travel to see this and you can enjoy the entire thing in a little under five minutes. Enjoy. Watch Hero Here

Wed Comic Reviews, VERTIGO edition.

Loveless # 18. Yeah yeah yeah, more people killing each other. This has got to be the slowest comic ever. yet I can’t turn away. B-

American Virgin the 1st Trade. This is an o.k. Vertigo book. It does a nice twist on the whole televangelist thing, and has some truly funny moments. But I can’t see this being the next Fables or Transmetropolitan.

I heartily reccomend Brian K Vaughan’s Pride of Bagdahd. It is a very neat look at the war we started and also surpising ends with a real sad outcome. If this were to ever get optioned for film I have no doubt the producers would change the ending, because if they didn’t there would be some crying kids leaving the theatre. One of the few comics I’ve read recently that made me say wow. I should start reading more of Vaughan’s stuff. I always liked Y the Last man, and he seems to have a very good sense of our world right now.

So what’s up with the releases anyway?

So, Jonathon’s Poster is out, it rocks and it’s JUNE! What’s next on the plate at the lucky house? Good question. There are about three to four Artists posters that have been requested to be made from our end. It’s all about when the artist get the time to create them. Music, there are two bands who I would love to put something out by, but that isn’t anything that’s really fast approaching. (that could change if I saw something amazing at a show or other factors aligned the gods) I’m still working on the Pea’s comic, which we will be publishing, and then there is still something else that I mentioned last year, that really just may take a long, long, long time to happen, but it’s being processed in my head.
So anyway while your waiting, order something you may have missed before. It’s all good for my soul.

Nice weekend.

We just got back into Iowa City.
Had a blast on day one in Chicago. We first went to COlumbia College for the Artist Book Fair where we saw some pretty neat stuff and some things I think that took the definition of ‘book’ a little to far. I left Jess there for a while to do some networking and I headed up to Graham Crackers and Millenium Park. HAd a great lunch at HI Tea, and then headed over to The Printer’s row bookfair filled with streets of books both used and new. Finally we hopped on the blue line to go to Quimby’s. It was nice to see Lucky Creature Attacks next to other compilations like Greatest Comic Anthologies of 2006. :> Jess had sold all of her stuff and made enough money to pay for her purchases and more!
Quimby’s is really a very unique comic store. If you ever get to go you should. Not a Superhero book in sight, and the store is probably twice the size of most comic shops. check it out when you can.
We drove into wisconsin for the night to get ready for day 2.

At the Midwest Gaming Classic. Pinball machines galore! We probably played our ten dollar entrance fee just in the amount of quarters we would have had to put into those machines. I also got a awesome Ice Climber sound figure from Japan, Strider for the Genesis, and a Hook Pinball flyer for my brother. Saw more systems that I never knew existed and even got some down time with an beautiful Neo Geo. Awww…
We had a great drive back stopping to see the crazy Grotto in Dickeyville, Wi and building browsing in Mt. Vernon.

UPDATE 1. Added pictures.

Heading out in a few…

We’re heading out to Chicago in just a few hours so Im going to get some sleep. Hopefully the weather holds and we will have nice driving conditions all weekend. If your in Milwaukee for the MGC, I’ll be the one wearing the Mega Man shirt and probably either playing pinball or scouring old Genesis carts. See you Monday.

Trailer buzz!

So the winter is going to continue in the past few years tradition of having big summer movies as well. In december we get Will Smith in I am Legend The trailer looks neat but Im afraid like I Robot before it it will be all action and none of Richard Matheson’s original story. Hollywood has been trying to make this for years, so I hope it works out.

American GangsterRidley Scott directing Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington in a loose Biopic.

Golden Compass
And then on Christmas we get Phillip Pullman’s Golden Compass, which new line hopes launches a new franchise.

Check the trailers if any of them seem interesting.

New Warriors #1

So One of the things Civil War has allowed Marvel to do is to explore and rehash some of their older and recently unused properties. Omega Flight seems to be doing o.k. for them and here come’s the New Warriors. I really enjoyed the first 70 or so issues of the first New Warriors series, never really read volume two until it had been cancelled. But being the Marvel boy that I am, they were always as close to the Teen Titans as I cared to get. This rehash has a nice set up. Someone or some group who are not registered heroes are bagging bad guys and leaving them for the cops. Just like the old days. Tony STark is mad, especially because they are leaving the NW’s tag at the sight. We see one of Grant Morrison’s best creations during his run on X-men Beak, except now he’s just an average looking guy since he lost his mutant powers during House of M. Seem a bit confusing? Yeah I guess you need to know the Marvel U’s storyline for the past three years to get any of it, but I’m hoping this book will be able to stand on it’s own and make a brand new name for the new “New Warriors”.

Are you kidding me?

This is a screenshot of Dowdy Ficklen Stadium from the game NCAA 08. Wow. do you know how many saturdays I sat there? This is the stadium to a 100 percentile. you can even see the middle school behind the scoreboard. I can’t wait to see what else the’ve included. Hopefully the canon goes off after we score. This get’s me so pumped.
