Trailer buzz!

So the winter is going to continue in the past few years tradition of having big summer movies as well. In december we get Will Smith in I am Legend The trailer looks neat but Im afraid like I Robot before it it will be all action and none of Richard Matheson’s original story. Hollywood has been trying to make this for years, so I hope it works out.

American GangsterRidley Scott directing Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington in a loose Biopic.

Golden Compass
And then on Christmas we get Phillip Pullman’s Golden Compass, which new line hopes launches a new franchise.

Check the trailers if any of them seem interesting.

June Movies

Knocked up comes out today and looks to provide the 40 year old virgin fun of last year.

Then on June 8th is Ocean’s 13 and the actors involved make these movies worth it.

Then on June 15th we have Fantastic Four 2. It doesn’t have to be good, just better than the first one and I think everyone would be happy. Man we’ve lowered our standards.

Pirates 3, better than 2, more epic in nature.

Pirates 3 comes roaring across the screen and just looks more suited for the summer multiplex than 2’s over hokey humor and hamster ball effects. The story actually holds up nicely considering there are times when you’ve got 50 actors all with speaking lines, and Johnny Depp gets plenty of time to act with himself. Pretty well done, nice atmosphere and its Pirates! A plus!

Hot Fuzz

Finally saw Hot Fuzz today and where it’s not quite as good as Shaun of the Dead it still provides plenty of humor. A very good sendup of the cop-hero genre and just altogether ridiculous at all the right times. The guys from Reno 911 could learn something here.

May Movies

May 4th. Well May is here and the summer of 80’s and overall geekfest of sequels is upon us. I know in my heart I won’t make it to as many movies as I would like and by August will pass on ones that I will go to now because Im ready. Spider-Man 3 opens the floodgates and it makes you wonder if the season will peak with the very first release. I loved the 1st movie, thought the second was a little king kong action but still rather good. Can anyone name any movies other than the original star wars where all 3 were good?(i know jedi is a point of debate, but I liked the Ewoks dammit.)

May 11th is 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to 28 days later. Got to wonder why? But as the first zombie flick in a while it should do o.k. in second place under spideys red and black second week shadow.

Shrek 3 comes out the week after, and I will skip it until dvd. Thank you for coming out by christmas.

Then only a week later on the 25th it’s time for Mr. Depp and the rest of the dirty Pirates for our final foray into what has been a wonderful summer set of movies. It will be fun and Chow Yun Fat as a pirate? Cool.

There’s two smaller films that also have my eye this month but they might not make it to your town anytime soon. Luc Besson’s first movie in quite a while Angel-A set in black and white Paris, and

Waitress, a romantic date movie for when your girl is sick of Venom and Explosions. Plus it has Nathan Fillion in it, which means it will be good and absolutely no one will go see it.

heroes turn’s it up a notch.

When I first starting watching Heroes I wasn’t that intrigued. I work most Monday nights and so it didn’t seem that put together to me. But now almost a full season in, and the show is really starting to work and sometimes it performs amazingly well. The shocker this past episode was worthy of a season ending cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see how their going to finish this thing.

Host Movie

Just got back from seeing The Host, the korean movie about an awesome toxic monster living in the sewers and the family that goes after it. This movie is wonderful and for a monster movie has plenty of nice family touches that are all very well played. We don’t get enough Monster movies anymore and it’s great when a genre film can also be infused with a sense of humor and understanding.
Too bad it wont play in the big chain theatres. It could of been a hit.

BSG Last night.

Well O.k. I can buy everyone except maybe one of them. Pretty awesome stuff though huh? Leads to some pretty interesting twists for the 4th season which isnt till 2008!!! That’s a pretty long hiatus but there is always that often rumored direct to dvd movie. Here’s hoping it’s true.

TMNT brings it back.

2007 may very well go down as the year of the franchise revival. TMNT plays very loose and fun and captures everything of the old movies and shows that has made the turtles so unique to begin with. What’s surprised me about the movie was that their was actually a plotline and the cgi was used wisely with speed to do things that you couldn’t do with actors. Nothing was forced either as Cowabunga sounded more natural now then it did in the 80’s. There were alot of kids in the cinema and I hoped they enjoyed their first experience with the heroes in the half shell as much as I did. A very good family film and a very nice treat for those of us who remember Vanilla Ice in turtles 2.
