The wonderful folks over at joystiq have posted the most wonderful news. Smash Brothers is indeed coming to the Wii and it will work with the traditional gamecube controller which is just perfect for the game. Oh Wii hurry up and get here. I want to play with my Wii soooo bad. Hahaha. Shut Up U.
E3 quick notes.
O.k so the pre conference press conferences are over. What did I learn? Well for one I won’t be getting a PS3 anytime soon. I consider myself a gaming geek, but if Sony thinks I’m shelling out half a grand for a system and thats before buying any games or extra controllers, then they are crazy. Most of the games will be available for the Xbox 360 which by that time may see a price drop anyway. Sorry Sony, Im not sacrificing my savings to touch your new shiny machine.
Wonderful Nintendo just keep walking to the beat of a different drummer. The Wii, will be the most unique thing gaming has every seen. I will buy one on day 1, i just wish Nintendo had set a release date, other than fall 2006. It will be neat to hear what the media says about the controller once they get there hands on it tommorow.
Xbox 360. I think Sony just upped you in my book. If you do drop your price on or around the PS3’s launch I may have to give your evil empire some money. Plus you have Star Trek Legacy, and I might not be able to resist blowing up Romulans.
Iowa Renaissance Festival

We attended the Iowa Renaissance Festival yesterday in Middle Amana, and the weather was beautiful. According to the program this was a soft Renaissance Fest which for noobies like us that was just fine. Many of the vendors were selling unique products they made themselves and others unfortunately were hawking flea market style knives and swords.
The festival itself was well organized with many events going on at once but with multiple viewing oppurtunites so you had many chances to see everything. I especially enjoyed the Jade Tiger Dojo’s Samurai demonstration and the Pirate Comedy Show, which at times was very raunchy as pirates should be. The jousting event was neat and very Busch Gardens, but for the price of the fest you got more than your moneys worth. I’d recommend the festival to all families looking for something to do next year. Very enjoyable, very friendly, very good time.
m-i-3 bring on the villians.

Mission Impossible 3, What a wonderful way to start the summer movie season. Big Bangs, and the best villian in Phillip Seymour Hoffman, that Hollywood has had in a while. He’s really just too cool, to be so utterly evil. The movie doesn’t slow down long enough for you to go hey wait what’s happening and it works by keeping it fresh, and just a little hollywood lightness at the end is the only negative I can see in it. After the crap that was M-I-2 I had no desire to see this movie, but I am glad that I did. JJ Abrams uses all the right pieces from the television show, the team dynamic, the spy theme, and the MUSIC! I can’t wait to see what Abrams does with Star Trek. Here’s to the summer blockbusters. They just started with a bang.
Summer Movie Season is Here! May,
O.k, So the summer movie doldrums kick off tommorow with Mission Impossible 3. It’s funny about a month ago I thought I wouldn’t touch this film with a ten foot pole but now with the JJ Abrams star trek anouncement, my need for a good action flick and all the praise Phillip Seymour Hoffman is receiving as the villian, I think I will go see this matinee style. Let the summer begin!
The next weeks winner may not pass Mission Impossible 3, and may not even break the box offices top 5. Poisedon comes out May 12th and looks to be the last movie for all involved. Kurt Russell should probably just hang it up. This is like a collection of B-list actors symbolizing the ship their sinking on isn’t this movie, it’s their agents job. Stay Away!
On May 19th is the Da Vinci Code. Millions will go, Millions will complain how the book was better, which really just takes all the fun out of it. Since I didn’t read the book I’ll just make fun of Tom Hanks haircut and stare at Audrey Tatou.

One week Later it’s time for the X-men. I still cringe that everything that was great about the first two movies has been missed here by Fox in an effort to beat Superman to the theatres. I hope to god Im wrong. In the past I could be so excited for this movie, now Im just scared.
and my May pick for movie that will be good but noone will see is
Art School Confidential. Terry Zwigoff(Ghost World) adapts another comic by Daniel CLowes (Ghost World). It has the right people in place, question is can Zwigoff breathe a full movie into a very small strip.
Wow. What movie’s are you excited about this summer?
civil war. r.i.p. new warriors.

It’s funny DC turned me off completely on their books with Infinite Crisis. In fact I’m not even interested in the whole one year later thing. The way i see it, they don’t know where the story is going. Civil War on the other hand i think resonates because it’s the marvel U, it feels more real, deals with more real topics. I think I may be the only New Warriors fan left on the planet, because my team is gone now, and I think I’m the only one who cares. Oh well, 1 issue down 6 to go, and if they are all this good we will have a mighty fine Marvel event on our hands.
Now Reading, The Tropic of Hockey, Now playing Bust a Move Ds, Brain Age Ds, Chaos FIeld(cube), Shadows of the Empire 64
now in my stereo. Joan of Arc, So much Staying alive.

Mark Schwaber Review is up!

Delusions of Adequacy has posted their review of Mark’s new album and it’s very positive. Here’s my favorite part.
“Schwaber has a knack for creating both brilliantly sparse and intelligent tracks while also shaking it up by introducing different instrumentation, keys, and varying levels of emotional intensity blended with his favorite artistic influences. Songs like “Man Down” and his album closer “You are Just Like Me, You Will Never be Free” speak to the influential Smith, while more upbeat songs like “Island of the Burning Trees” will circle through your head long after you’ve put down your headphones. If you are looking for intelligently crafted, emotional pop with solid rhythms and laid-back harmonies then this is an album you could easily get hooked on.”
I’ve found a few other reviews and there on the front page of luckycreature.com. Have you seen a review? Let me know,
Also Decibully cancelled last night, but Collection of Colonies of Bees were very good, and I usually dislike instrumental bands. Oh well. By the way, The “killing card” is that good. Do I need to remind you to buy it if you haven’t already?
what?
o.k. so now comics have movie trailers? freaking cool. check out the trailer for civil war, marvel’s much hyped limited series starting next week right here. Weird. Guy sounds like Dennis Haysbert.
Nintendo is calling the revolution Wii? WTF? Prounounced we. As in Wii like gaming. Wii like to sound like we like to play with our Wii. Ouch. what a terrible name for it here in the states. Oh well I don’t care , I just hope this doesn’t kill the system before it launches.
Going to see Decibully and Collection of Colonies of Bees tonight. I’ll take pictures.
“I could have set you free, but I watched you burn.” -Rainer Maria.
kissy comics.
so im not going to go through the trouble of posting my comic covers this week. why? one has luke cage and jessica jones kissing. Granted there getting married. How sweet. the other issue astonishing x-men # 14 has wolverine and Emma frost kissing. How misleading. Eh.
O.k. Both of these issues get a’s from me. Astonishing may be the best book on the market where nothing really happens. I really am becoming more of a Joss Whedon fanboy everyday and John Cassady’s art is superb.
New Avengers Annual is funny and actually a bit cute at times. It’s strange that these two superhero books read more like an episode of any good hour long comedy than a comic book. whoopee! I’m o.k. with that.
Time to go train my brain.
