Peas page 156, 3 years!

Today’s Peas marks 3 years of weekly Peas online. Some weeks have been stronger than others, while some weeks were a nonsensical mess, but 3 years is still a long time to do something on a consistent basis, so I’m proud of that small fact. And I encourage everyone to try to do something weekly. It’s helped me so much in my creative life, to the point where I now try to accomplish something ‘creative’ everyday no matter how busy I get with the job, life, etc. It’s to the point where if I’m not writing, painting creatures, or working on something for one of my various projects, even if for only ten minutes during the day, then I’m actually grumpy about not doing it.
Todays Peas mixes a little Star Wars, with a little Brazil, and fanciful thoughts of flight, which seem to be a recurring theme these last couple months. Anyway, enjoy and hopefully I’ll get to write another one of these posts in 3 more years. Peas Page 156

Comic Work.

Part of the reason I cancelled Lucky Creature Attacks this year was I wanted to start putting that energy into my own work, some of which is my desire to write comics. 6 months later, here’s where the various comic projects stand.

Project A: Summer Nights. I wrote this series before this year and Jessica has been working on it as time allows. The first issue is nearing completion and we hope to have it out this fall at the latest.

Project B: The first issue of this is with the artist, and is moving along nicely. I’m already writing part 2. I think this has real potential and can’t wait to share some of it with you.

Project C: Has an artist attached but theres not much movement on it currently. Hoping to see some soon.

Project D: Is out for script review from an tremendous artist, who I hope will work with me. If this one happens it could see the light of day before any of the other projects.

As always, I’m willing to work with all artists, in all styles so shoot me an email if you feel the need to tell stories sequentially.

I also need to give a shout out to Lynn Bither and Jennifer DePaola, and the rest of the staff of Shevacon for making this happen. Shevacon Website

Photo History #5 Justin and Jin

These are my friends Justin Howe and his wife Jin in South Korea with their creature poster. We met Justin & Jin in Easthampton, MA. I owned a tiny little used bookstore called the Papercut there for two years, and Justin was one of my biggest supporters during that time. We got to know them, and Jin eventually introduced us to the wonders of Korean eating. All the moves later there are days when I miss Easthampton something terrible. Life moved at a different pace there and it had a strange effect on all the natives and on me.

Extending the family tree, Justin is a writer and has contributed to many projects including reviewing books for Strange Horizons. He has a story in the recent Homeless Moon collection. His livejournal, which currently is detailing his time in Korea is here.

Jin is a wonderful artist of comic/manga style work which can be seen on her website here. It’s in Korean, but I used Google Translator to make some sense of the words. The art though, being amazing, needs no translation to see her talent.
