Updated website now with peas!

O.k. so go over to lucky creature as we’ve updated the website. you may have to hit refresh once or twice. We’ve also used the opportunity to launch Peas online! where i will be able to post the Peas comic. Im thinking I’ll only update it once a week so everyone can keep up with bob and sally (including me). enjoy and as always your comments are always welcome.

a blow to my heart.

“As much as it breaks our hearts to write these words, the final issue of Punk Planet is in the post, possibly heading toward you right now.” that’s how an email I just received started. This is really bad news as one of the last great music magazines out has called it a day. Also one of the last places the really tiny operations like Lucky Creature could afford to run ads in. I have feelings of saying that’s it, it’s over call it a day, print is dead. But I don’t really believe that. Print lives on but it’s a different monster now, and it can’t continue to be something sold en masse. And music some could argue as sold as physical discs is dead, but again it’s now a different monster and it can’t be sold the same way. We as the small labels, and publishers have to change our way of operating, or die. It’s easy for me. Maybe I shouldn’t say this because it speaks volumes, but I have lost money on EVERYTHING I have ever released. Some more than others. Things like the Exercises in Breathing cd came close to breaking even(mostly because I toured with it for four years but other’s even the wonderful Mark Schwaber album(possibly the best sounding cd we’ve ever done) have sold far less than we had hoped. It’s strange, things we should be having trouble selling like Lucky Creature Attacks are easily our most succesful. It’s a strange time to be in the print business but it’s where we will stay. Sure we may only release 3-4 items a year, but they will be on paper, on disc, on vinyl, and in your hands. Maybe someone will come along a fill the void left by Punk Planet. I doubt it. Most likely we will get another Rolling Stone or god forbid Alternative Press. Come what may, Lucky Creature isn’t going anywhere, and I encourage the other labels and publishers out there, to keep on publishing, searching and working. Print is not dead, it’s just a different monster.

So what’s up with the releases anyway?

So, Jonathon’s Poster is out, it rocks and it’s JUNE! What’s next on the plate at the lucky house? Good question. There are about three to four Artists posters that have been requested to be made from our end. It’s all about when the artist get the time to create them. Music, there are two bands who I would love to put something out by, but that isn’t anything that’s really fast approaching. (that could change if I saw something amazing at a show or other factors aligned the gods) I’m still working on the Pea’s comic, which we will be publishing, and then there is still something else that I mentioned last year, that really just may take a long, long, long time to happen, but it’s being processed in my head.
So anyway while your waiting, order something you may have missed before. It’s all good for my soul.

food poisioning, nintendo media summit, B.P.R.D., LOst theories, The fall tv lineup, and a wonderful store in downtown Iowa City White Rabbit. It’s all local artists, t-shirts, prints and music and ts really a awesome store. Go check it out.

Peas. O.k. Sure why not?

Ok. After a number of comic projects which thankfully no one outside of this house will see I am returning to the Peas landscape. It’s full color, and I have a few pages completed already. I hope to have a small print run by the end of the year. Small as in 150-300 copies and it will be available through us. It’s been a while since I visited Bob and Sally and I’m surprised at how much I am enjoying creating them in color.
