hellboy darkness calls#3

Something about Hellboy and the mythology surrounding the book really draws me in. There is a sense of proper place in the storytelling and yet the humor of life is always present through Hellboy himself. Im enjoying this series much more than The Island, and I can see it wrapping up wonderfully over the next few issues.

I need a doctor?

Through various sites Ive been able to catch the Doctor Who episodes and Torchwood as well that havent aired over here yet. Im quite happy to say that David Tennant, just makes season 3 enjoyable. Im about half way through right now and its just so good. It’s such a happy show and even it’s dark moments can be lifted away with a smile.
It’s really growing on me.

Fantastic Four 2 is actually pretty good.

I can’t believe I’m writing this but Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer is actually pretty good. It’s much better than Spiderman 3. I dont think I could have even thought that months ago.
The difference between this one and the first one is astonishing. The first was overly dramatic, cheesy and just too long winded. This one is still cheesy at times, but appropriate and the heroes powers are used at the right times and not just too show how cool they are. The one thing that really separates this movie from the other one though is Doug Jones as the Silver Surfer. It’s amazing that a creature actor can have such a big impact. He was wonderful in Pan’s Labrythinh and Ill have to go back and watch Hellboy to see him as Abe again. The characther deserves his own movie. One set entirely in space. It could be a great way for Marvel to expand their film Universe. Take him to the Kree Skrull war. You could make three movies on that alone. I just cant get over how cool the surfer is in this film even using cgi technology from terminator 2 era. I would much rather see Silver Surfer movie before we get a Fantastic Four 3. Still I will definetly be watching this movie on dvd.

a blow to my heart.

“As much as it breaks our hearts to write these words, the final issue of Punk Planet is in the post, possibly heading toward you right now.” that’s how an email I just received started. This is really bad news as one of the last great music magazines out has called it a day. Also one of the last places the really tiny operations like Lucky Creature could afford to run ads in. I have feelings of saying that’s it, it’s over call it a day, print is dead. But I don’t really believe that. Print lives on but it’s a different monster now, and it can’t continue to be something sold en masse. And music some could argue as sold as physical discs is dead, but again it’s now a different monster and it can’t be sold the same way. We as the small labels, and publishers have to change our way of operating, or die. It’s easy for me. Maybe I shouldn’t say this because it speaks volumes, but I have lost money on EVERYTHING I have ever released. Some more than others. Things like the Exercises in Breathing cd came close to breaking even(mostly because I toured with it for four years but other’s even the wonderful Mark Schwaber album(possibly the best sounding cd we’ve ever done) have sold far less than we had hoped. It’s strange, things we should be having trouble selling like Lucky Creature Attacks are easily our most succesful. It’s a strange time to be in the print business but it’s where we will stay. Sure we may only release 3-4 items a year, but they will be on paper, on disc, on vinyl, and in your hands. Maybe someone will come along a fill the void left by Punk Planet. I doubt it. Most likely we will get another Rolling Stone or god forbid Alternative Press. Come what may, Lucky Creature isn’t going anywhere, and I encourage the other labels and publishers out there, to keep on publishing, searching and working. Print is not dead, it’s just a different monster.

The Shatner Show

O.k. up in Canada, birthplace of William Shatner, they are having a art show called, The Shatner Show. Pretty awesome pieces. Someone buy me that gorn and shatner kiss fest, or at least buy me the book. Seriously buy me the book:> Anyway you can check out the show here which is also where you can buy me a book. Going to be a busy day of Shatner today as Iowa City is showing Wrath of Khan for free tonight under the beautiful but hot June skies. Khaaaaaaaannnnnn!!!!!
