COMICS!

Loveless # 19. Wow. finally the story gets going again. I was slowly giving up on this book but not now. Tight story telling and the art is back at top form.

The Immortal Iron Fist. Hardcover collecting the first six issues. If you would have told me that in 2007 two of marvel’s coolest characthers would be Luke Cage and Iron Fist I would have laughed. Brian Bendis made Cage relevant again and this is what Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker have done with Iron Fist. A must for any fan of Martial Arts comics.

Anders Nilsen’s Dogs and Water is sparse in it’s renderings and it’s pacing is almost dreamlike. He leaves alot for the reader to figure out and that is quite alright. One of the better indie books I’ve seen this year.

Wed Comic Reviews, VERTIGO edition.

Loveless # 18. Yeah yeah yeah, more people killing each other. This has got to be the slowest comic ever. yet I can’t turn away. B-

American Virgin the 1st Trade. This is an o.k. Vertigo book. It does a nice twist on the whole televangelist thing, and has some truly funny moments. But I can’t see this being the next Fables or Transmetropolitan.

I heartily reccomend Brian K Vaughan’s Pride of Bagdahd. It is a very neat look at the war we started and also surpising ends with a real sad outcome. If this were to ever get optioned for film I have no doubt the producers would change the ending, because if they didn’t there would be some crying kids leaving the theatre. One of the few comics I’ve read recently that made me say wow. I should start reading more of Vaughan’s stuff. I always liked Y the Last man, and he seems to have a very good sense of our world right now.

Living and The Dead by Jason

The Living And The Dead by JAson published by Fantagraphics. Jason returns to his old silent style comic here and I really just prefer these stories. His simplistic drawings really have so much emotion to them without really doing anything else. This is a zombie love story and it has the nice pacing and neat Charlie Chaplinesque tricks that I’ve come to expect from Jason’s work. A plus

Loveless # 16. Whose in the cave? Sooo many plots, so little happening. Still a very competent Vertigo Book. B plus.

Fell is back!

Fell # 7 Image Comics 1.99 by Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith. Thank You Thank You Thank you. I miss the backmatter not being in this issue, but other than that I had no clue I like good cop stories so much. Maybe I don’t but heck if this isn’t my favorite comic. Now if it only came out more than once every three months. Aplus.

Loveless # 15. Vertigo/DC 2.99 Now here’s a comic that has kept it’s scheldule for a little over a year now. It’s still good, but with each issue I’m losing a bit of that shock factor that drew me in the first place. B-

So I got to see Lost in High Def last night for the first time. Ooohhh the Jungle is Green. I mean really really green.

axm 19, loveless 14, bsg 4, bsg zarek #1

big comics day for me.
Astonishing gets all spacey and Mr Whedon and Mr Cassidy deliver again. not as fun as the past couple of issues but still the best book of the week.

Loveless 14 More vengence. great colors. dont know where this comic can go though.

battlestar galactica # 4 interesting story. like where the cylon thinks baltar is a cylon, which he may or may not be.

bsg zarek, a miniseries on richard hatch’s characther from the new show. pretty good backstory.
