One Cool Thing 8-1-2020 Chicago gets the 80th Worldcon

Chicago has won the bid for the 80th Worldcon to be held September 1st-5th, 2022 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Some notes on this.

Now known as Chicon 8, it is the 8th time the Worldcon will take place in Chicago, IL marking it as the most visited city. Of those 8 visits 5 have taken place at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, making that hotel home to more Worldcons than any actual city other than Chicago. For more details on the plans for the event check out the Chicon Website

The next Worldcon, number 79, Discon3 takes place next August 25th-29th, in Washington, DC. Details on that event can be found here

One Cool Thing 7-22-2020 Virtual SDCC

Comic Con goes virtual for 2020. So many toy companies like Super 7 and Mezco are still having San Diego Con exclusives that you can buy from the comfort of your home and hopefully wont have to deal with scalpers later or hunt ebay for that con exclusive you really want.

But what i think is the best part of this bad situation? The over 350 panels Comic Con is producing for you to watch free over the next four days. So many good things to see there. As someone who has never been able to make it to the West Coast for this convention, I am going to take in as many of these as I can. Here’s the schedule.

One Cool thing for today. What’s cool with you?

Charlotte Minicon

Went to the Charlotte Minicon today. It’s probably the 4th year in a row we’ve gone. This year is the first we didnt get anything for ourselves. I did find an ewok and rdd2 for Milo and got him a Huey Lewey and Dewey comic book.
The con had a lot more comic dealers this year than in years past. The few toy dealers did have a good selection but we didn’t find anything we had to have this year.
Its always a good show and lots of fun either way. It was the 40th year for the Minicon and here’s hoping there will be many many more.

Carolinas Region Con pick for January 2017

If your going to host a con in January, and it’s not going to be in the comfort of a hotel, and it’s only going to be one day long, then you better be darn good. And luckily for those of us within a day drive of Charlotte, NC there is Heroes Minicon! Now in it’s 40th year the show packed into the Grady Cole center in Charlotte is older by five years than it’s much bigger summer brother Heroescon but packs a whole lot of awesome into a much tinier space. Where Heroescon is the go to destination for comic artists, Heroes mini feels more like a traditional show with equal space given for comic creators, comic dealers, toy and collectible hunters and one or two Anime sellers as well. The only drawback to this show is that it’s crowded. At times the floor is almost un passable but with lots of time to shop and not much ground to cover you still have time to see everything.
If your near Charlotte make a day trip of it. We usually hit a Dim-Sum place in the morning, go comic shopping at the con, and then have a nice dinner in the big city before coming home. Pretty much a perfect cold January day.

What: Heroes Minicon 40
Where Grady Cole Center, Charlotte, NC
When: Saturday January 28th, 2017.

Ephermera Fest

ephemerafest2013
Super excited to announce we will be returning to Lexington, Ky for the second time this year. This time it will be on June 1st for Ephemera Fest a celebration of zines, comics and printed d.i.y. things. It’s been a while since I displayed my zines so I’m pretty excited about the chance to do so even if I’ve become more known for my creature paintings. Super stoked to being going back to Lexington again this year.
See you there!

Nc Comiccon

So the East Carolina football schedule came out today and there is a home game versus Tulsa on November 9th. Being a season ticket holder this means I will not be in artist alley at Nc Comiccon scheduled for Nov 9th-10th this year. But I will attend the show in Durham, NC at least on Sunday to buy some art and load up on some great comics. See you there!

2 Shows for 2013

I will be returning as Guest to Guilford college in Greensboro, NC next Feb 8th-10th, 2013 for Wth Con Its a great little show that I’m happy to be a part of.

And we have decided to return to Heroescon so look for us in the small press/artist alley there next June 7th-9th, 2013 in Charlotte.

That being said unless something too good to pass up happens, I’m slowing my convention appearance schedule in 2013. I’m aiming to only do one show per month. So if you have a show and want my creature paintings to make an appearance, now is the time to contact me. Again, if it’s an awesome show, I’ll break the plan, but it is a plan that I need to try and stick to next year. The past two years I’ve been to between 17 and 20 shows a year. Just dropping that number by 5 or 7 shows will be good for my well being.
