it’s afternoons like this that you need a good ice tea. sweet and southern. Returned to work to too much work today, got most of it done with only an extra hour put in. not bad, so it will be a busy morning as rent is due as well. kinda tired. kinda dreaming about finding a ds lite on sale before the street date. naughty Target.

missing posts.

so i havent been writing this weekend because my brother is in town. it’s been great to see him but my stomach is yelling stop. we’ve probably hit more restuarants and bars than anyone should in a week and my wallet says please use plastic way too much.
in other news the comic is at the printers
im saving up the funds for the disease/network of terror split 7″
and after that i think lucky creature will go on an advertsing scheme for the rest of the year to make space for our 2007 releases which will be very different than what you may expect from me.

So anyway starting tommorow with comic reviews i should be back to writing more regulary.

x-men 3 the last stand

X-3. Is well. It’s o.k. By far not the worst superhero movie(Daredevil) it has moments that make you cringe as a comic fan, and as a movie fan. Certain choices in the script don’t help either. It does have it’s moments though and they mostly come from the quiet moments between members of the x-men, which there are far too few of in this movie. It’s a lot of watch Storm fly here, watch Storm fly there? Who decided Halle needed more lines and screen time anyway. All in all id give it a B-. It ties up the series nicely, with a few surprises and if Fox has decided to leave the series like this I’m o.k. with it, I just have to wonder how much better this would have been with Bryan Singer at the helm. Mr. Rattner go make Rush Hour 3, stay away from my superheroes, and Fox go make Wolverine, make it R rated, and you will have a new franchise on your hands. Thankfully one without Halle Barry.

“oh my stars and garters” Really if this line sounded cheesy when Lee wrote it in the sixties. why would you use it now?

New Avengers # 19. I like how this book is setting up the civil war from the house of m. Art still sucks imo.

LOVELESS # 7 it’s official this and Fell are the reasons im still buying comics. This book is the best. It’s the most beautifully colored comic about the dirtiest time in United States history. BUY IT!

LOST season 2 wraps tonight. What’s going to happen?

hisworld/herworld#6

production has begun on hisworld/herworld # 6. Jessica and myself as well have been too busy this spring, but now it’s summer and the comic has gone to the printers so we can relax and tell you all more geek knowledge from both the male and female perspective. Plus the continuing adventures of Julie Jones inside. We started that story two issues ago and it will probably go for about, I would assume 30-40 issues. don’t miss out. You can ask us anything about our free zine at hisworldherworld@gmail.com look for your copy free of charge at various Iowa City locales in about three weeks.

Da Vinci.

So I didn’t read the book, so as just as a movie I’ve got to say. Heh. B+ maybe. The cast including Paul Bettany and Ian Mckellan are great. Tom Hanks. Heh. B-? The movie reminds me alot of the James Patterson adaptations like Kiss the GIrls and Along Came a Spider. Good but not great. Move from clue 1 to clue 2 to the conclusion. Some cheap tricks are used to get out of really filming any action sequences and the car chase looks like it was shot to add another few seconds of film not to really excite anyone. As far as summer movies go, this lacks the pop, or the firepower. As far as thrillers go, where’s the thrill? One of Hanks most passionate line is “Get me to a library quickly!” A library? yeah their’s a place for daring-do. Still it’s well done, tight, and a mostly strong cast make it worth at least a rental, especially if you’ve never read the book and want to know the basics of the story. B+

hiya.

so the comic is at the printers. he ran into a few problems, so were correcting them on our end and getting the fixed pages back to him. Jessica has become fully incorporated into the lucky creature philosophy now. Meaning she’s doing all the work and I’m taking the credit. Couldn’t of done it without her. Oh well. On other fronts, Mark starts his tour this week. go see him on the east coast. And I have all the songs for the Disease/Network of Terror Split 7″ and am working on the cover. How’s everyone else?

COMIC day.

Big week for me with three titles. granted the guy in front of me got about thirty books, but hey I have way more geek passions than just four colored funny books.
ANyway it was a great week
Moon Knight # 2 Slowly bringing this characther back from what I guess can only be B-hero hell is a very enjoyable ride. I love David Finch’s Artwork. It’s superb.

Fell# 5. The best 1.99 any Law and Order or cop show fan could spend. EVER. I said this last issue but Warren Ellis hasn’t written dialouge this tight in a long time.

And NOVA Annhiliation #2 Yeah. It’s space, DRAX is funny? And then Quasar shows up? Quasar? Hopefully they don’t try to make every Marvel space hero cool in this book. Some, like Quasar, just can’t be cool. Not possible.

New Super Mario Bros Review.

First Up I need to admit I was seven years old the christmas my father brought home the Nintendo Entertainment System for me and my younger brother. It was the complete set, the one with ROB the robot, Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. And as you can see my life was changed forever right then. So yes this review may have nostalgia on it’s side and that may be influencing me even though I don’t believe that’s the case. Here’s my argument for that.

NEW Super Mario Bros. may very well be the best game on the DS. It’s the best game I’ve played all year. The colors are crisp, the action quick and the pace steady. There are multiple ways to go through the game, and trust me you will want to unlock everything. Mario has never looked better and the game shows what could have been for the sidescroller if not the rush to 3d in the early 90’s caused by Mario 64. Everything from the series is here. Every Villain you remember, every mushroom and power up and plenty of new ones as well. And it’s great. Now your probably wondering how I can say this isn’t clouded by my nostalgia for that christmas some twenty years ago? Here’s how.
I was a Sonic boy. When that blue hedgehog blurred the screen, I went Sega and never looked back,. The gameplay just felt better, fresher. I truly believed that, and now I’m left wondering after enjoying NSMB all night and this morning, if maybe, just maybe I was wrong. This gameplay stands up today. And although Sonic Rush for the DS(which is the closest to real Sonic, we have gotten in along time) is good, it is by no means great. So I’m left with one explanation. Mario, as simple as he is, is still one of the greatest game creations in the history of VideoGames. And I’m glad we can still take a journey in the hazy 3-d world we live in, across a beautifully colored lush and vibrant 2-d platformer, that only makes you smile.

Thank You For Laughing.

Saw Thank you for Smoking the other day and it is quite funny, if you remember to drop all the political correctness and your personal views for and hour and a half. I would like to hear how the smokers out there took this movie. I thought it was funny and Aaron Eckhart is really above himself as an actor and does a marvelous job playing the main not quite morally centered star. Very Enjoyable flick and if your town is lucky enough to get a print, go enjoy it. A great directorial debut for Jason Reitman.

I know i’ve been posting way too much video game consumption lately but this is too funny. This video taken By Kotaku Online is of a stampede to get to the Nintendo booth on Friday’s E3, and its quite a stampede. The funniest bit comes at the end when they show the employees in the nearly empty Sony booth next door shaking there heads in disbelief. Believe it people, Nintendo is back, and if the E3 crowd is any indication, we will all be fighting to play the Wii.
