El Cucuy & La Llorona

2010
08.09

These two creatures were done on commision. They are from New Mexico Folk Tales.
The guy with the red ear is El Cucuy. He is used in stories as a way to scare children into behaving. His large red ear is to hear misbehaving children.

And the lady is La Llorona. Her story is she drowned her children as revenge for her cheating husband and is now cursed to roam the waterways to find replacements. She is used to keep kids from playing in ditches.

I had never heard of these two before and loved the challenge of painting them in my style.

Now Available at my Etsy Shop. Spider Soldier Creature. He’s got six eyes! I got to admit the video game Shadow Complex inspired this some, even though there are no spiders they wear a lot of masks in that game with no visible sight lines. ETSY
